AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Circa 1880, 20x26 cm.
"Door of an Arab house", a very beautiful view/portrait of an old man and a young man in Cairo, by Gabriel Lekegian (late 19th century).
A superb vintage albumen print in very good condition, loose (not mounted, rare), with excellent preservation of contrasts, grayscale tones and levels of detail.
Labeled and signed in the negative.

Gabriel Lekegian was an active photographer in Cairo at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th. Of Armenian origin, he built a substantial photographic and publishing workshop, distributing portraits, street scenes and monumental views of Egypt to an international clientele.
His work is distinguished by precise framing, great sharpness, and particular attention to architecture and human figures, balancing careful documentation with a sense of staging.

Deserves framing.
Small PR conservatoire piece, not to be missed.

Will be shipped with its sleeve and its cardboard support on neutral pH (ideal for a collection kept in good condition).
