Hippolyte Arnoux was a photographer active in Egypt and North Africa in the second half of the 19th century. Based in Cairo, he developed a vast catalog of views, monuments and portraits of local "types" distributed to travelers and European collectors. His images, often carefully numbered and captioned in the negative, testify to a structured and commercial production, but also to a real sense of framing and light.

Deserves framing.
