Description from the seller

Circa 1900, 21x28 cm.
"Berber Type from the Aurès", a very beautiful portrait by Eugène Michel (late 19th/early 20th century).
Superb gelatin silver print, in very good condition, free (not mounted, rare), and a very fine preservation of contrasts, grayscale nuances and levels of detail.
Labeled in the negative and signed by a damp stamp on the back.

Eugène Michel was active in North Africa at the end of the 19th century and early 20th century, where he worked both as photographer and publisher. His photographs mix urban views, landscapes and portraits referred to as “types”, with particular attention to light contrasts and architectural textures. At the crossroads of documentary work and commercial publishing, his work participates in the construction of a visual imaginary of the Maghreb intended for a European audience.

Deserves framing.
Small PR conservatoire, not to be missed.

Will be shipped with its sleeve and its neutral-pH cardboard backing (ideal for a collection in good condition).
