A fine early 19th‑century silver cutlery set by Hendrik van Es (Rotterdam, 1805), consisting of five dinner forks and five dinner spoons in 934/1000 silver, total weight 592 g, with initials JMJ on the back of the handles and notable features described as a kam and Dubbel Lof.

Description: A very beautiful cutlery set from the early 19th century, consisting of five dinner forks and five dinner spoons, made with a so-called comb on part of the handle. The base of the handle is in the so-called Double Leaf (Dubbel Lof). The reverse side of the handles bears the initials JMJ.
Provenance: Rotterdam, Netherlands

Hallmarks: standing crowned lion, city mark, master mark (HVE joined), year letter Y, crowned O (re-issue mark from 1807), French import marks (Haan 2 and guaranty mark), hatchet (Rijksstempelmerk for old, traded silver and gold works).
