Description from the seller

Silver Ostensorium – Paris, 1798-1809 – Henri-Antoine Dubois

Important silver ostensorium in a neoclassical style resting on a rectangular plinth with four feet.
The principal faces are decorated with the Tetragram, the Tablets of the Law, grapevines and sheaves of wheat, explicitly Eucharistic symbolism.

The baluster shaft with floral decoration supports a wide radiant glory surmounted by a cross.

Marks:
– 1er Coq (1798-1809)
– Grosse garantie de Paris
– Master Goldsmith Henri-Antoine Dubois (punch-marked around 1798-1799)

One element of the glory is to be refixed (visible in the photo). Missing lunule. Light wear consistent with use of the period.

Height: 57 cm x Width: 27 cm
Weight: 1156 g

Beautiful example of Parisian ecclesiastical metalwork from the Directory / Consulate period, with strong liturgical presence.
