Fulgorite (from Latin Fulgur = lightning) is a glassy mass, tubular in shape and hollow inside, produced by the energy released by a lightning bolt or similar electrical discharge on sandy ground rich in quartz. The heat generated by the electrical discharge fuses the siliceous sand containing quartz, giving rise to fulgorite. The resulting glassy mass, called Lechatelierite, is amorphous and generally classified as a mineraloid.
