Description from the seller
This original vintage sewing box from the 1950s/60s impresses with its elegant mid-century design language and high-quality craftsmanship in solid wood and veneered surfaces.
The body shows a warm wood tone with beautiful, lively grain. The softly rounded side cheeks frame the furniture harmoniously and give it a soft, sculptural silhouette. The lid is slightly slanted and opens via a black conical knob.
Inside there is a functionally well-thought-out organization system:
• an upper insert box with several compartments for yarn, needles and small tools
• below it another subdivided compartment
• as well as a generous lower drawer with additional partitions
The combination of open storage and clearly divided compartments makes the box extremely practical and everyday-friendly.
The hardware is metal and provides discreet accents. Particularly characteristic is the slender horizontal metal strip on the middle front as well as the round knobs of the drawers. On the side there is an additional handle for comfortable repositioning.
The sewing box stands on four conical, period-typical wooden legs, which emphasize the delicate, light look and ensure a stable stand.
Inside there is the original manufacturer’s label:
Ernst Strauss KG Holzwarenfabrik – HORNECK Erzeugnis – Waldau, Kreis Hildburghausen/Thüringen, which indicates production in Thuringia (former East Germany).
Condition:
Maintained, authentic vintage condition with age-appropriate signs of wear such as light scratches and small indentations. The construction is stable, all elements function flawlessly.
For shipping, both legs are professionally dismantled to prevent transport damage. Reassembly is straightforward.
A characterful, original sewing piece of furniture with honest patina and a clear 50s/60s aesthetic – decorative and functional at the same time.
