Welcome to my auction!
This is a unique, original, handmade piece—a true handcrafted masterpiece. What is particularly remarkable about this artifact is the attention to detail from its creator, a Malian artisan. I acquired it during my stay in the Djenné region, Mali.
This statue represents a Dogon shepherd ancestor with a shield and a spear, mounted on a horse, a mystic animal in Dogon culture. It has always been kept inside a glass display case.
MATERIAL: African bronze. Lost-wax method, dark brown patina.
PROVENANCE: Private collection, originally from the Djenné region of Mali (recovered on site).
DIMENSIONS: Height 30 cm, width 1 »23 cm.
