Description from the seller
Aquamarine Pendant / Cabochon / new
Set in 925 sterling silver
Includes leather cord
Weight: 9.04 g (weighed without leather cord)
35.7 mm x 17.7 mm x 7.7 mm
New and unworn
Aquamarine is the blue variety of the silicate mineral beryl and therefore crystallizes, like it, in the hexagonal crystal system with the chemical composition Be3Al2[Si6O18].
Its blue color is imparted to aquamarine by foreign impurities of iron ions in the +2 and +3 oxidation states at various lattice positions. As an allochromatic (foreign-colored) mineral, the streak color of aquamarine is always white. The color named after the gemstone is a saturated blue-green, but pale blue to dark blue beryls are also referred to as aquamarine.
Due to its high Mohs hardness of 7.5 to 8 and its often well-formed, clear crystals, aquamarine is mainly processed into gemstones.
