The book "Het lelijke jonge eendje", drawn and lithographed by Theo van Hoytema in 1893, is a special edition of the well-known fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen. This edition is known for its beautiful, naturalistic lithographs in subdued colors and with a characteristic Art Nouveau/Jugendstil linework. The text is drawn by Van Hoytema himself into the illustrations, which makes this edition extra unique. Van Hoytema, a renowned Dutch lithographer (1863-1917), has rendered the story in 31 colored plates, with a minimum of text.

The binding of the cover with the contents is reinforced with a strip at both the front and back by a book repair team. The mounted lithographs are complete and in good condition. Under litho no. 6 there is a small tear in the background page that has been glued.
