Description
Elegant and rare English egg boiler in silverplate, produced by the renowned manufacturer James Dixon & Sons, Sheffield, as evidenced by the hallmark on the base.
The object consists of:
• oval body with a movable handle
• domed lid finely engraved with a geometric floral motif
• three-foot stand decorated in neoclassical style
• removable alcohol burner
• inner metal egg rack
The design is typically Victorian, with incised banding on the lid and shaped legs with stylized vegetal motifs.
This is an item intended for the English bourgeois table between the late 19th and early 20th centuries, when serving hot eggs was part of the ritual of the formal breakfast.
