Description from the seller
Complete dinner service for 6 people produced by Kronester Bavaria in the 1970s.
The table service offered at auction was made by Kronester and decorated with an unusual design that sits halfway between Space Age style and Postmodern design. Probably datable to the mid-1960s, the decoration revisits the typical floral motifs that characterized Bavaria’s tableware, reintroducing on each piece flowers more in line with the taste of the 1970s: the bold and crisp décor, with psychedelic undertones and pop colors, is typical of these years and widespread in the Central European area.
One of the main protagonists of design in this historical phase is Hans Theo Baumann (1924-2016), a visionary freelance designer, who from 1954 designed porcelain objects for more than fifty German manufacturers, revolutionizing the language and style of German table porcelain. Baumann brought on plates and vases Op-Art-inspired designs that spoke a new language, highly appreciated for their vivid colors.
Countless Bavarian manufactories turned to him to revise their models and decorations, generating a real artistic current that for at least a decade distinguished porcelain made in Germany from that of other countries.
The service is in very good overall condition and consists of:
6 flat plates
6 soup plates
6 appetizer plates
1 tureen
1 salad bowl
1 round tray
1 gravy boat
Rare object, which tells the story of postmodern design in a single plate.
