MedievalRaeren sandstone jug.
Stoneware jug with brown salt glaze. Cylindrical shape with a wide neck and a poorly formed handle.
The body is adorned with a frieze showing peasant-dance scenes based on a series of copper engravings by the Nuremberg artist Hans Sebald Beham (1500-1550).
At the shoulder, a series of tendrils in compartments. The neck is decorated with circular grooves.
This stoneware pitcher was made in the Raeren region towards the end of the 17th century. It is covered with a fine salt glaze.
Piece in good condition, professionally restored.
