An antique French cave à liqueur set from the Napoleon III era, consisting of a wooden stand, a glass decanter and matching glasses with gold detailing, dating to ca. 1850–1900, in reasonable condition with heavy wear and one glass cracked and chipped.
Description from the seller
This drink set is probably a part of an antique French Cave à Liqueur (liqueur cellar) from the Napoleon III period (circa 1860-1880).
Such sets were originally kept in richly decorated wooden chests made of root walnut wood or ebony, often inlaid with brass and mother-of-pearl (marquetry). The depicted set is the interior, consisting of a wooden stand (serviteur) with a glass decanter and accompanying liqueur glasses, decorated with gold-colored floral motifs and borders.
Important features:
Origin: France, 19th century.
Style: Napoleon III, recognizable by the elegant shapes and the combination of glass with gold accents.
The carafe has a decorative stopper and the small goblets fit precisely into the recesses of the wooden holder.
The holder is made of veneer wood, has 2 layers and is held together by 3 small pillars with 3 white knobs. And under the base there are 3 feet attached.
Dimensions approx: 9H x 14.5W x 14.5D cm and weighs approx: 76 grams.
The set is in good condition, but one glass unfortunately has a crack and a chip in the bowl. The glass is hand-blown, therefore there are irregularities in the glass and the sizes and weights are not equal.
The beautiful gold embellishments are well preserved but also show wear that comes with age.
A nice set to display for decoration.
See photos for a good impression; they form part of the description.
Dimensions: liqueur glass average 8H x 4W x 3.5D cm, weight varying from 34 to 41 grams.
Carafe: 16.5H x 5W x 4D cm measured with stopper on. Weight approx: 123 grams.
Total weight approx: 413.5 grams.
Will be carefully packaged and insured for shipping.
