Description from the seller

The general shape of this mask is inscribed in a circular arc. The eyes have been pierced, although the wearer can see through the mouth opening. From the horns to the eyes, it represents an antelope, and from the eyes to the lower part of the face, a panther with filed teeth. This person has the duty to offer the sacrifices and offerings that must be presented to the mask; on the other hand, they are subject to certain taboos, but in return for the possible gifts intended for the mask. The Zamblé dancer is chosen from among the best dancers in the family or clan.

Provenance: Berthe Hartert collection
