Description from the seller
Leica Summicron 50 mm F2 black, the indispensable focal length to own.
This made-in-Germany model, Summicron-M 50mm f/2 of the 3rd version (v3), was manufactured at Leitz Wetzlar in 1970; it is highly sought after!
Serial no.: 2444732 = 1970 (Summilux database)
Compatible with analogue bodies (M 4,5,6,7).
This production batch was made at a time when Leitz was optimizing its optical formulas to increase contrast. The Summicron v3 is reputed for a typically 'Leitz' rendering of the 1970s: higher contrast than the 'Rigid' version (v2).
Body in black anodized aluminum (lighter than the previous brass versions). It is one of the lightest 50mm lenses in the history of the M system.
Tested by a Leica boutique in Paris.
Excellent condition: focus and aperture rings smooth, no scratches, no fogging, no fungi or mold on the lenses.
Included:
Leica round black anodized aluminum hood 12585 H (sturdy protection for the front element) highly sought after
front and rear storage caps.
For info:
Summicron, often nicknamed 'Cron', despite a price that often rises above 2,000 €, sits in the lower end of Leica's price range. This price is nevertheless justified by two factors: superior build quality, with hand-assembled optics, and relatively high rarity compared with mass-produced lenses, as you might find from Nikon or Canon, for example. The Summicron sits above the Summarit, Elmarit and Elmar.
