Description from the seller
Robert Pierini — Large Monumental Blown Glass Vase, Biot, France with certificate of authenticity, BA2
Artist: Robert Pierini (French, b. 1950)
Origin: Verrerie de Biot, Côte d’Azur, France
Period: 2002
Technique: Mouth-blown glass with hand-applied inclusions of colored pigments and metallic oxides using the “overlay” (multi-layer) technique
Style: Modern / Abstract Art Glass
Description:
A spectacular and imposing free-form oval vase in mouth-blown glass, created by one of France’s most celebrated master glassmakers, Robert Pierini, at his atelier in Biot on the French Riviera. The piece features a dramatic abstract composition of sweeping cobalt blue spirals interwoven with turbulent masses of amber, burnt orange, red, and teal — evoking both the fury of fire and the depth of ocean currents. The colors are applied in multiple layers and worked entirely freehand, resulting in a design that is unique and unrepeatable.
Viewed from above, the vase reveals an extraordinary interior: a sculptural, flame-like inclusion of molten orange and amber glass suspended within the deep blue vessel — a hallmark of Pierini’s highly tactile and expressive style.
The base is clear glass with a slightly flattened foot, giving the piece a solid, grounded presence. The surface is perfectly smooth and polished with a high-gloss finish.
Signed by engraving under the base BA2
Dimensions (approximate): Height ~28 cm | Width ~20 cm
Condition: Excellent
About the Artist:
Robert Pierini discovered the art of glass in 1968 under master glassblower Eloi Monod in Biot. He went on to become one of the most respected and sought-after French studio glass artists, exhibiting in major galleries worldwide. His work is characterized by its bold color, abstract expressionism, and exceptional technical mastery of the overlay technique.
