Series of three meteorite drill core samples from oil exploration in Sicily and the Congo, with a total weight of 6 kg.
Description from the seller
Series of 3 corings carried out around the 1980s following drilling for oil reservoir exploration by the Eni group. Samples collected at various depths as described on the labels applied to the wooden bases to which they are glued.
The first on the left comes from the Vega 5/d oil well in Sicily, which today is the largest oil extraction platform in the Mediterranean. The Inici Formation is a Sicilian stratigraphic unit of the Lower Jurassic (Lias), consisting mainly of carbonate deposits such as light gray to gray limestones, mudstone and wackestone, arranged in beds from decimetric to metric.
Measurement without base Height cm 10 diameter cm 10
The second sample, the central one, is composed of oo-lotic-bioclastic limestone and sandstone; it was taken at 2767 meters depth in Congo in the Zatchi field, Sendji formation dating to Albiano age (the latest stage/ age of the Early Cretaceous, Mesozoic era), dated between 113 and 100.5 million years ago.
Measurement cm 10.5x6.5, height 14
The third core comes from the Ragusa well, taken at 1849 meters depth, and is composed of Dolomite (Dolomia).
