Description from the seller
"New York" is a book of photographs by Japanese photographer Keizo Kitajima, one of the world’s most acclaimed collections of Japanese artistic photography. After studying at Daido Moriyama’s photography school, he began taking snapshots in Okinawa and founded a self-managed gallery with his peers, producing ten monthly presentations and brochures that contained snapshots of Tokyo’s nightlife with a strong impact. Kitajima’s approach, which emphasized the improvised nature of photography, was highly acclaimed and he subsequently moved to New York. He ventured into a city with an atmosphere even stranger than Tokyo, filled with a certain kind of fear, and, as the sniper described as a “street devil in broad daylight,” this book is a selection of 35,000 photographs from a total of 900 films taken with a powerful flash. A set of powerful and energetic works that seem to expose the “unknown New York behind the scenes.” Kimura Ihei Award winner. The first edition had 188 pages, and this second edition has 240 pages since it also includes color images and the English translation of the texts. The book is new, signed on the first page by Kitajima himself and with its original obi.
