Description from the seller
Absolutely unavailable today on the Internet even in an unsigned copy, this copy is exceptionally signed on the title page by Fulvio Roiter (1926 - 2016). 90 pages and about 70 photographs in color printed full page and some double-page, texts in Italian and English by Ignazio Roiter. Publisher’s cloth binding illustrated on the cover and back and an illustrated dust jacket identical to the binding. In excellent condition, practically like new.
The two twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York were destroyed by two planes during the terrorist attack of September 11, 2011. As the reconstruction project for the site in New York was developing, the Veneto Region in Italy decided to build a monument of homage to the victims in the city of Padua near Venice. The architectural project was entrusted to Daniel Libeskind, the same architect who was selected for the reconstruction of the New York site. The monument consists of two open walls like a book in satin glass, inside which lies a beam nearly six meters long. Fulvio Roiter had photographed the two twin towers in many ways before the attack, and he publishes these photographs along with those from the moment of homage in Padua in a single book that is offered here.
Fulvio Roiter was born and spent his youth 35 kilometers from Venice. Very quickly passionate about photography, he was part of the group of amateur photographers La Gondola with Paolo Monti, Gianni Berengo Gardin, Giuseppe Bruno and a few others. His prestigious books on Venice and the one on Umbria by Saint Francis of Assisi, both published by the Guilde du Livre in Lausanne, enjoyed extraordinary success in Europe, and Fulvio Roiter undertook numerous trips that gave rise to many books.
The photographic work of Fulvio Roiter makes him one of the most important Italian photographers of the twentieth century. As early as 1959 the illustrious photography critic and historian, Giuseppe Turroni, described him as a “prodigy” of Italian photography. In 1982 Fulvio Roiter was selected to publish a volume in the collection Grandes Photographes led by Roméo Martinez, who was editor-in-chief of the Swiss photography magazine Camera. In 2009 an exhibition and a book-catalogue “Dieci fotografi d’oro” (10 golden photographers) highlighted him with other sometimes very different Italian photographers such as Gabriele Basilico, Giovanni Berengo Gardin, Mario Cresci, Mimmo Jodice, Franco Fontana, Guido Guidi and a few others.
The American photography historian Naomi Rosenblum, in one of her texts on Fulvio Roiter, emphasizes the synthesis of harmonious aesthetic principles and the humanistic values that Fulvio Roiter achieves in his work.
