Description from the seller

According to Jan Elsen in 'Tribal Arms Monographs' Vol. I / No. I, page 36, these sickle-type weapons were used among the Banda during the initiation of young girls, but also as parade objects among the elderly. They were formerly used in warfare. The blade ends with what appears to be a stylized bird's head: at its base it bears a spur engraved with geometric motifs. Nice patina from use. Blade cleaned.
