Description from the seller

This pair of Italian ecclesiastical candlesticks dates to the second half of the 18th century and originates from a private religious setting.

Provenance: From the private chapel of Villa Il Colombaio, formerly the private residence of Countess Isabella Bonucci Ugurgieri della Berardenga and her family. Acquired directly from the owner’s son in 2025. Provenance supported by a signed letter of attestation.

Each candlestick features a hand-forged wrought iron candelabrum with three arms, originally finished with gilt accents, mounted on a painted and stuccoed wooden base.

The ironwork shows clear signs of pre-industrial craftsmanship: subtle asymmetries, individually forged arms, and decorative elements shaped entirely by hand. The wooden bases retain their original structure and proportions, with visible age and patina consistent with long ecclesiastical use.

The pair is intentionally not perfectly identical, a characteristic typical of handmade liturgical objects of the period.

These candlesticks were acquired directly from the historic estate where they had remained for generations and share provenance with other ecclesiastical and domestic objects from the same property.

An additional matching wooden base without a candelabrum is also available separately.

Condition is consistent with age and use.

The wooden bases show wear, surface losses, and old wood worm activity typical of 18th-century painted wood. Minor past restorations include discreet wood filler applied to old, inactive woodworm holes.

The wrought iron candelabra retain traces of their original gilt finish, with oxidation and patina throughout.

Structurally sound. No major restorations or reconstructions.

Further restoration could be undertaken if desired, but the pieces are offered in their current, authentic condition.
