Description from the seller

Circa 1880, 19x25 cm.
"Bédouine de Djerba", a very beautiful portrait by Jean Garrigues (XIX).
Superb vintage albumen print, in very good condition, loose (not mounted, rare), and with a very beautiful preservation of contrasts, gray tones, and levels of detail.
Labeled and signed in the negative.

Jean Garrigues was active in Tunisia at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, in a context of photographic growth linked to the protectorate and the development of tourism. Photographer and publisher, he produced urban views, scenes of life, and portraits circulated as prints and postcards.
His work is characterized by a sharp light and a clear composition, attentive to architecture, markets, and local figures, through a production that is both documentary and commercial.

Small PR conservatoire, not to be missed.

Will be shipped with its sleeve and its neutral-pH cardboard backing (ideal for a collection in good condition).
