AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Circa 1890, 18x24 cm.
"Mauresque", a very beautiful portrait attributed to Jean Geiser (19th).
Superb vintage albumen print from the period, in very good condition, loose (not mounted, rare), and with excellent preservation of contrasts, grayscale nuances and detail levels.
Labeled in the negative and stamped with a dry seal in the bottom right (partly cut).

Jean Geiser (1848-1923) is one of the most important photographers of colonial Algeria in the late 19th century. Of Swiss origin, he settled in Algiers around 1873 and founded a photographic studio that would quickly become one of the most renowned in North Africa. His work is part of the Orientalist photography tradition. He produced thousands of images for travelers, settlers and European collectors: city views, landscapes, street scenes, portraits of inhabitants and studio compositions featuring dancers, musicians or people in “exotic” costume.

Small PR note for conservatoire, not to be missed.

Will be shipped with its sleeve and its neutral-pH cardboard support (ideal for a collection in good condition).
