Table lamp designed by Ettore Sottsass for Rinnovel, Italy, circa 1954, made entirely in anodized aluminium with a brass-coloured anodized aluminium projector, dimensions 18 x 12 x 15 cm, in good used condition with light ageing marks and an E14 small-bulb socket not included, fully working.

A rare table lamp designed by Ettore Sottsass for Rinnovel, 1954.
Iconic object, a variant is published in Electa's book "Museo del Design Italiano. Triennale Milano 1946 -1981", as seen in the photos.
Completely made of anodized aluminum. The base consists of a shaped pin (tondino) in which the anodized aluminum copper-colored projector is housed.
Excellent vintage condition with light signs of wear and halos on the aluminum anodization, as seen in the photos.
Electrical system perfectly functional. Fitted with a small E14 bulb holder not included in the auction.
These are among the first works created by one of the world's most important designers.
This type of lamp was used above black-and-white televisions to reduce eye strain, since the TV was often viewed with lights off. They served to reduce the contrast between darkness and the illumination from the television. Today the recommended use is as a bedside lamp.

In 1957 he becomes artistic director of Poltronova.
In 1958 he begins his collaboration with Olivetti, earning numerous recognitions, including three Compassi d’Oro.
Selected by Emilio Ambasz to represent Italian design at the MoMA epochal exhibition titled "Italy" (1972).
Numerous solo exhibitions, at the Cooper Hewitt in New York and at the International Design Zentrum in Berlin (both in 1976).
In 1980 he founded the studio "Memphis" and subsequently Ettore Sottsass Associati.
There are countless awards and recognitions. An honorary degree from the Royal College of Art in London (1976), appointment as Officer of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres of the French Republic (1992), the IF Award Design from Industrie Forum Design in Hannover (1994), appointment as Honorary Doctor of the Royal College of Art in London (1996), the Oribe Award from the city of Gifu in Japan (1997).
He was a Grand Officer of the Order of Merit from 2002 until his death.
Died in Milan on December 31, 2007, at the age of ninety.
