Item Description
Up for auction a genuine piece of Hollywood cinema history: a variable anamorphic projection lens produced by Superscope Inc. of Los Angeles, California.
Developed by brothers Joseph and Irving Tushinsky in 1954, this device marks the golden era of the transition from standard formats to widescreen cinema. Unlike fixed-focal systems, the Superscope allowed the projectionist to manually adjust the image aspect ratio (up to 2:1) via the distinctive side crank and the front graduated scale.
Superscope Inc. is known not only for its optical innovations but also for having later acquired the famous audio brand Marantz.
