Turkmenistan origin, Abu Dahria region, early 20th century hand-knotted wool-on-wool carpet, measuring 295 by 276 cm and weighing about 50 kg, in good restored condition and professionally cleaned, featuring octagonal Gul motifs in a red abrash palette.
Description from the seller
Beautiful authentic Bochara.
Antique, made at least 100 years ago.
Crafted with wool from their own sheep and dyes they made themselves from plants in their surroundings.
Knotted on undyed goat hair warp threads.
The octagonal shapes are called ‘Guls’.
Each tribe has or had its own Gul symbol.
This red is very beautiful, rather soft in tone and with ‘abrash’, that is the mixture of colors you see.
Because you do not see one monotone color but 100 small nuances, the charm of the handmade work.
Nicely worn condition. No holes.
He had a crack in the edge at the bottom, still visible in the photo, but that has since been repaired.
These carpets were formerly made by the Ersari nomads.
They lived on the grasslands in Turkmenistan between northern Afghanistan and Uzbekistan.
These carpets are often attributed to Afghanistan, but as you can see above, that was only a small part of this people.
Bochara is the capital of Uzbekistan, the place along the Silk Road where these nomads sold their carpets – hence the name.
>>> Extra costs for transport due to the large weight - 50 KG. Box size: 80x50x50 cm.
For example, for France it will be with UPS 125 Euro.
I must now fill in some details on a guess to be able to make the advertisement.
Prices vary by postcode and can therefore be different from what is shown here.
I use the price that DHL or UPS asks.
It may be less or more, but those are the costs. We can compensate mutually, there is no other system that accounts for this.
If you would rather send me a label and pay the shipping costs yourself directly, that is also possible. Please contact customer service. Indicate with payment "self pickup". Then you do not pay Catawiki the shipping costs and you can send me the label in the email or in Catawiki’s messages box. You can always send photos, messages and links in this messages box.
