Description from the seller
Beautiful and extra-large Delft blue wall plate (display plate) from Royal Sphinx Maastricht
This nostalgic, regal wall plate from the 1960s is a fine example of Dutch design in the classic Delft blue style. Produced by the renowned Petrus Regout / Royal Sphinx factory in Maastricht (the Netherlands), carrying the official royal predicate.
The detailed transfer decoration depicts a romantic winter landscape: a thatched farmhouse with smoking chimneys, a windmill in the background, a boat in the canal, snow-covered trees, and children playing near the icy water in the foreground – pure Dutch atmosphere and nostalgia!
On the bottom right clearly signed by the designer/engraver J. Sonneville (Jef Sonneville, 1892-1971), a well-known artist who created many iconic decors for Sphinx.
Backside mark:
Royal Sphinx Maastricht with crown and sphinx logo
P. Regout
Made in Holland
Delfts
Handwritten model or serial number
Condition: Excellent – no chips, cracks, crazing or restorations visible. Gorgeous blue with great depth, glaze intact and vibrant. Ready to hang (often with hanging holes or a wire on the back).
Dimensions: Ø approx. 40 cm (exact measurement recommended) – impressive size for the wall or a display case.
A charming collectible for lovers of Delft blue, Maastricht ceramics, Jef Sonneville, or quintessential Dutch heritage.
