Ancient ecclesiastical seal – 19th century
Old brass seal mounted on a turned wooden handle, bearing the imprint of a mitred bishop holding his crozier. The peripheral legend reads: “S. AIGNAN DE MOULINS-LES-NOYERS · Près Dᵢocᵉˢᵉ DE SENS”
This is clearly a parish or confraternity seal, probably made in the 19th century judging by the engraving style (naive yet neat line work, classic text layout, regular capital letters) and the shape of the handle.
The brass shows an authentic, old patina, without overpolishing.
The wooden handle has a few purple ink stains, typical of use in an old rectory or sacristy.
