A 4-piece Gufi collection from Asia, comprising a decorated terracotta plate with a colourful owl image (24.5 x 24.5 cm, 1100 g, early 21st century), a hand‑carved Suar wood sleeping owl (14 cm high, 10 x 9.5 cm, 305 g, late 20th century), a bronze lost‑wax casting owl of Indian origin with original export badge (6.8 x 6 x 5.8 cm, 210 g, 1970s–80s), and a small contemporary green patinated bronze owl miniature (~3 cm high, wings span >5 cm, ~25 g, circa 2000, inspired by Atena votive and Etruscan styles).

AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Small but precious collection of Owls, 4 pieces.

1) Terracotta plate coated with glass tesserae and featuring a highly decorated image of a beautiful colored owl. Size 24.5 x 24.5 cm, height 7 cm, weighs 1100 g. Perfect for a collection. Early 21st century.

2) Sleeping owl in Suar wood, with the appearance of an old wise figure, of Indonesian origin, hand carved in excellent craftsmanship. (It is a wood grain, not a crack)
Height 14 cm, width 10 cm, thickness 9.5 cm, weight 305 g. Late 20th century.

3) Bronze owl, lost-wax casting, of fine workmanship and well defined. Of Indian origin, it still bears the original export sticker attached.
Height 6.8 cm, width 6 cm, thickness 5.8 cm, weight 210 g. 1970s/1980s of the 20th century.

4) The smallest but the most iconic... Small green patinated bronze sculpture depicting an owl with wings spread, created in a contemporary era (circa end of 2000). The work echoes the models of ancient Mediterranean small votive bronzes, where the owl was a sacred animal to the goddess Athena and a symbol of wisdom, protection, and the ability to see beyond darkness. At the same time, certain body stiffness and the synthesis of forms evoke, by suggestion, the archaizing aesthetics of some Etruscan bronzes, especially in the small votive figures intended for temples.

About 3 cm high, wingspan over 5 cm, and weight around 25 grams, the miniature concentrates in a small size the presence of a larger statue. About year 2000, Etruscan zone in Tuscany, Italy.
The green antique patina enhances the archaeological effect, making it suitable for a Wunderkammer or a collector’s desk. It is not an ancient artifact, but a free modern interpretation that pays homage to both Athena’s owl iconography and the Etrusco-Italian taste for small votive bronzes, offering a decorative object with strong symbolic power.
