Description from the seller

Beautiful Ngbandi/Ngombe shield
Democratic Republic of the Congo
Period: 1900-1920
Total height: 138 cm
Maximum width: 51 cm
Materials: basketry, wood, pigments
Provenance: Danny De Waele - Belgium

This type of shield was most often collected from the Ngbandi. Some specimens display a leopard skin at its center, while others are equipped with a protective iron disc to shield the grip. Although lacking these ornaments, this one bears more geometric motifs than most of its peers (Baur & Elsen, Guba: Wicker Shields from the Congo Basin, 2002).

Sold with an authenticity certificate signed by Mr. Danny De Waele.

This shield could be Ngombe given its size and the type of handle.

Delivery guaranteed by Bpost.
