Description from the seller
Wanderlust: 60 Years of Images is a retrospective photographic work that traces sixty years of Thomas Hoepker's career, the great German photojournalist and former president of Magnum Photos.
The book is not a novel with a linear plot, but a visual narrative of the world through the eye of a privileged witness of contemporary history.
The thread running through the book is travel – geographic, cultural, and human. Hoepker gathers images taken on all continents, merging major historical events with scenes from daily life. Among them are photographs linked to:
- the Cold War,
- the fall of the Berlin Wall,
- the September 11, 2001 attacks in New York,
- but also more intimate scenes showing anonymous people, urban landscapes, moments of calm or irony, characteristic of his humanist approach.
The book shows how Hoepker set out to document the world with great attention to detail, color (which he helped to establish in photojournalism), and the human context of every situation. Taken together, they form a kind of visual memory of the late 20th century and the early 21st century, where History and daily life continually respond to each other.
The book is quite imposing and heavy (304 pages). It will be delivered with tracking and signed on arrival
