Description from the seller
Italian floor lamp, Murano glass, 1960s/’70s
Style/attributable to Carlo Nason for A.V. Mazzega
Refined Italian floor lamp from the 1960s/’70s, made with hand-blown Murano glass and a satin-finished metal structure.
The composition is developed through three light points arranged at different heights, each formed by a wide opaline glass disc supporting a hemispherical dome in clear blown glass. The interaction between the milky surface of the disc and the transparency of the upper hemisphere creates a soft, enveloping lighting effect, while also giving the piece a strong sculptural presence even when unlit.
The glass elements show the slight irregularities and depth typical of Murano artisanal workmanship, with a rich, compact opaline glass that contrasts elegantly with the purity of the clear blown glass. The chromed fixing collars enhance the technical and formal balance of the overall design.
The minimalist structure with three vertical stems rises from a weighted circular base, lending slenderness and rhythm to the composition. The proportions, the modular use of glass and the formal language are closely connected to the design research developed by Carlo Nason for A.V. Mazzega between the late 1960s and the early 1970s.
An elegant example of Italian design in the height of the Space Age era, combining artisanal quality, formal balance and a strong visual identity.
