Description from the seller
Peter Lindbergh - Photographs
You can look at them a hundred times and they never get boring—on the contrary: with each viewing, you discover new details that bring the photos even closer than the last time. The unusual format (26 x 38.5 cm) makes experiencing the photographs a special pleasure. Lindbergh is a fashion photographer, even if this title does him a disservice. He photographs exceptionally beautiful women in unusual settings. His photos are familiar from major fashion magazines like Vogue, Marie Claire, and Harper's Bazaar, as well as the 1996 Pirelli Calendar. But his pictures are more than just photos intended to encourage purchases: they are sensitive, atmospheric portraits of strong, self-assured women (portrayed by supermodels such as Naomi Campbell, Kara Young, Tatjana Patitz, Kristen McMenamy, Milla Jovovich, and many others) who emerge from the images. All the images in this retrospective are black and white photographs, Lindbergh's favorite medium. He mostly works with a shallow depth of field, thus concentrating on the essential elements of the image. Most of the models wear little makeup and look directly into the camera. One can't get enough of these images (the portraits of Berri Schmither, Marie-Sophie Wilson, and the double-page spread with two portraits of Nadja Auermann are particularly beautiful) – every detail begs to be discovered
