Two antique coal irons made of brass, with the right-hand piece dating to around 1850–1880 and the left-hand piece from France to circa 1900–1930, both in good used condition and in working order, with brass bodies and wooden handles.
Description from the seller
The right iron is an antique coal iron made of brass or copper, probably dating from the mid to late 19th century (about 1850–1880). Unlike modern irons, this model was filled with glowing coals to heat the metal soleplate. The openings on the sides provided the necessary air supply to keep the coal burning. The iron is made of yellow brass (brass) or copper, often with a wooden handle to protect the user’s hands from the heat. It has a hinged lid that opens at the back and is fastened at the front with a lever or slider.
Is in good condition!
18 cm long, 15 cm high, 9 cm wide.
The left iron is also an antique coal iron, also known as a charcoal iron, probably of French origin and dating from the early 20th century (about 1900–1930). The piece is made of cast brass and richly decorated with graceful reliefs of floral motifs and scrollwork, giving it a decorative appearance. The handle is made of turned wood, designed to protect the user from the heat during ironing. The iron is hollow inside and has a hinged lid on the top, under which glowing coal was placed to heat the soleplate. The strategically placed holes on the sides provided the necessary air flow to keep the coal burning.
The dimensions are 17 cm long, 16 cm high and 7.5 cm wide.
