Description from the seller
Art Nouveau Solid Bronze Bowl with Owls
In excellent condition – No reserve.
A striking and highly decorative Art Nouveau bronze bowl featuring a remarkable sculptural design with a circular arrangement of stylized owls. The piece radiates strong symbolism and craftsmanship typical of the late 19th–early 20th century Jugendstil movement.
The bowl is cast in solid bronze and has an impressive weight of 930 grams, immediately conveying the high material quality. Around the rim, beautifully detailed owls form a rhythmic composition, each rendered with finely textured feathers and expressive eyes. Between the figures, small openwork geometric cut-outs add depth and visual lightness to the design.
The warm golden bronze surface has been carefully polished and waxed, enhancing the sculptural relief and giving the piece a rich, elegant sheen. From above, the composition forms a harmonious radial pattern, making the object both a functional bowl and a sculptural centerpiece.
Objects featuring owls were particularly popular during the Art Nouveau period (circa 1890–1910). The owl symbolized wisdom and mystery and was widely used in decorative arts, jewelry, and architectural ornamentation. Pieces like this were often used as vide-poche bowls, desk accessories, or decorative table objects in refined interiors of the period.
Dimensions
18 x 18 x 3,5 cm (d x w x h)
Weight: app 930 grams
Condition
In excellent condition. The bronze has been professionally polished and waxed.
