Sculpture carved entirely freehand by a renowned Murano glassmaster from the Tagliapietra family using the calcedony glass technique; its distinctive colors are due to the calcedony method, the coloring effect is obtained by adding to the molten glass a mixture based on various metal oxides; the results are incredible.
This particular technique was invented in Venice in the late 15th century but only became famous later.
Calcedony glass is a special kind of decorative glass obtained by mixing metals of different colors, mainly green and purple, to imitate semi-precious stones such as agate, calcedony, onyx, malachite, lapis lazuli, and jasper.
