Napoleon III period jewellery casket in gold‑plated brass with bevelled glass, red silk interior, France, 1850–1900, dimensions 6.5 × 7.5 × 7.5 cm, in good condition with light brass patina.
Description from the seller
Napoleon III jewelry box in beveled glass and gilded brass, with its original red silk interior, France, 19th century.
Superb display-case from the Napoleon III era, crafted in a rich gilded brass frame finely molded and chiselled, adorned with decorative floral and geometric motifs characteristic of the Second Empire style. The structure houses magnificent thick beveled glass panes, offering remarkable transparency and a very beautiful light effect.
The box is entirely glassed-in, including the lid, making it a true display case intended to present precious objects such as jewelry, pocket watches, or small collectible mementos.
The interior retains its original red silk upholstery; the glass lid is mounted on a hinge and closes with a small front latch. The whole rests on four ornately worked decorative feet, providing stability and elegance to the piece.
This type of display case, highly representative of French production under the Second Empire, was often made by Parisian workshops specialized in luxury and display items. A particularly refined decorative object and collectible, highly sought after for its aesthetics and craftsmanship.
Good overall condition considering age, with mild patina on the brass and normal signs of use. The interior shows natural wear of an old silk, which attests to its authenticity; see the photos as they are part of the description.
