Description from the seller
The item up for auction is a classic, decorative goblet with a lid, made in the renowned Sheffield metalworks center in England. The cup features a traditional form with vertical fluting (channeling) of the body and an impressive figurine crowning the lid.
Item details:
Material: EPNS (Electro Plated Nickel Silver) – high-nickel brass electroplated in silver.
Origin: Sheffield, United Kingdom (signature on the bottom).
Construction: Two-handled cup on a tall foot, accompanied by a matching lid.
Decoration: The body of the cup and the lid feature decorative embossing; the handles have an ornate, curled profile. The crown of the lid is a cast figurine of a figure in classical attire.
Condition and flaws:
The item bears natural signs of use and age, which give it an authentic antique character. Please note the following:
Patina and discolorations: The surface has natural patina and darker spots/tarnish (may require professional cleaning if a high shine is desired).
Scratches: The surface has numerous micro-scratches resulting from cleaning and use.
Figure condition: The figurine on top is intact overall, but shows casting irregularities and wear to facial details and garments.
Base: On the base there are traces of oxidation and dirt, as well as a small irregularity.
Signature on the bottom: "E.P.N.S. WITH HARDENED METAL FITTINGS SHEFFIELD"
Why buy?
The cup presents itself with a very dignified appearance and will be an excellent ornament for an office, living room, or a valuable addition to a Sheffield plate collection. Despite minor imperfections, the construction is stable and the form is very striking.
