Large Italian radiating liturgical ostensorium in 800 silver (.800 argento), dating circa 1850–1900, with a central circular glass-front shrine, six 800 assay marks, measurements 66 cm high, 31 cm wide and 10 cm deep, and a weight of 2517 g, in good used condition with minor signs of age and stains.
Description from the seller
Large radiating liturgical monstrance in 800 silver, of Italian manufacture, part of the refined ecclesiastical production from the late 19th century to the early 20th century.
The work stands out for its monumental presence and the elegance of the composition, with a central circular glass-encased reliquary, a wide radiating array of shaped rays, a shaft with a central knot and a tripodal base richly adorned with vegetal motifs, volutes and decorative details in a neobaroque taste.
The frame around the reliquary is embellished with multicolored decorative inserts in shades of red, green and pale, which enhance the overall ornamental value and give the object a strong visual impact.
Of particular note is the presence of 6 “800” hallmarks, distributed coherently across the different parts of the piece:
• 3 hallmarks on the base
• 3 hallmarks on the upper part
The repetition of the hallmarks confirms the silver title in the main structural components of the monstrance.
Due to its craftsmanship, substantial dimensions and significant weight, the piece represents an item of notable interest for collectors of sacred art, liturgical silver, religious antiquities and ecclesiastical furnishings.
