Description from the seller
Carved bronze wall sconce – Louis XVI / Empire style – serpent motif
Beautiful chiseled bronze wall sconce in Louis XVI / Empire style, adorned with an elegant central motif of entwined snakes symbolizing eternity and protection, typical of neoclassical aesthetics.
The ornament consists of two symmetrical arms ending in bobeches decorated with leaves and rosettes, framing a central shaft adorned with entwined snakes and botanical elements. The chisel work is fine and detailed, reflecting high craftsmanship.
On the reverse there is an stamp (atelier or foundry mark), indicating manufacture probably made at the end of the 19th century or the beginning of the 20th century, a period when decorative bronzes inspired by the Louis XVI and Empire styles were particularly popular.
The sconce is electrified (retrofitted), but can also be presented as a classic decorative element.
