Description from the seller
Episcopal ciborium in vermeil silver richly adorned with amethyst cabochons bezel-set, arranged on the lid, at the knop, and at the base. The interior bowl is entirely gilded according to liturgical usage. The domed lid is surmounted by a trilobed Latin cross.
The knop and the foot reprise a rhythmic decor of amethysts in polylobed frames engraved, evoking the episcopal symbolism of liturgical purple.
Under the base there is an engraved inscription mentioning “Monseigneur de Grammont,” indicating an episcopal destination.
Marks:
– Master goldsmith Edmond Lesage, Paris (EL in a lozenge)
– Minerve first title (950‰)
