This handmade chair is richly and finely decorated with woodcarving, including lion heads on the armrests and a detailed motif on the backrest.

Made of solid wood, this chair remains sturdy and stable after all these years. The chair is surprisingly beautiful for its age.

This is an original chair over 125 years old, so not the chair from the 1960s whose backrest can be removed and folded.

The chair is also known as the Savonarola, Dante, or X-frame chair. This type of chair became known in the 19th century as the Savonarola, named after Girolamo Savonarola, an Italian priest who lived in Florence from 1494 to 1498. The design is derived from an ancient Roman X-shaped chair that was popular in medieval Italy. It is one of the oldest forms of chairs or stools, with examples dating back to the 2nd millennium BC.
