Description from the seller
Impressive large double bedspread in raw silk, satin and cotton from the late 1800s to the early 1900s, of generous dimensions. After all, old beds had different sizes from modern ones, and mattresses were made to measure, as were the corresponding linens; in fact its measurements are 226 cm wide by 220 cm long, with a 13 cm fringe added on three sides. On a modern bed with a standard 80 cm mattress it reaches the floor, elegantly dressing the bed and giving it a sober, restrained tone.
The dominant color is a warm, light orange, almost mustard, as a background, easily matching the colors of a home, and to give the bedspread value, the entire surface is embroidered with frames of flowers and hieroglyphs in violet, salmon, and gold tones.
It's all embroidery across the bedspread. A very beautiful color combination. The photos are more explanatory than words. It is embroidery and not print; just look at the back to tell.
Splendid the straight fringe with a band of passementerie that echoes the same colors. It is all embroidery with flowers and hieroglyphs on the head part, in the center a large rose window, at the corners and the lower part a series of circles with a flower inside. In the lower part there are geometric designs.
A very particular bedspread because it is different from the usual damasks.
It is part of my trousseau collection, and like many others it is in good condition and I assume it has been used little given the abundance they had. It has no stains, and the fringe is in good condition.
A separate note deserves the imposing fringe, which repeats the orange color and has a straight band of passementerie, and then there is the straight fringe; all of it is about 13 cm tall. The fringe runs along the three edges.
Overall, I would say it is a very peculiar bedspread, different from the usual ones seen on the market. The fabric is splendid. Usually, florals are damasks and of smooth silk. Its shade and its rich embroidery across the entire bedspread, extending to the fringe and to the part covering the pillows, and its dimensions give it true value.
Even the heavy, sturdy fabric dress(es) the bed perfectly, while at the same time giving it softness and elegance. A piece from another era but always relevant for those who love the past. It could also be used as a table cover with embroidery on top. When an object is beautiful, it always finds a use, even as a sofa cover given its size.
For shipping I use private couriers and not the post office because it arrives faster and has double packaging, and communication is simpler.
Shipping costs vary depending on whether it is Europe (zone 1 or 2, e.g., United Kingdom, Switzerland, Eastern Europe), Norway, Malta, Cyprus, and rest of the world.
Customs duties will be borne by the buyer.
