Description from the seller
Large 1950s Lighthouse Table Lamp – Copper & Brass Maritime Design – Rotating Light Effect
In near mint (complete restored) condition – No reserve.
Striking and highly decorative large lighthouse table lamp dating from the 1950s, executed in a beautiful combination of copper, brass and aluminium. This sculptural lamp captures the romantic imagery of coastal lighthouse architecture and translates it into a functional piece of mid-century lighting design.
A particularly charming feature of this lamp is the original mechanical lighthouse effect. Inside the lantern sits an aluminium rotating cylinder mounted on a fine iron needle. When the heavy quality lamp warms up, rising heat causes the cylinder to slowly rotate, alternating between a translucent mica panel and a red mica panel. This creates a subtile classic rotating red-and-white lighthouse beacon effect, giving the lamp a warm atmospheric glow and a subtle sense of movement.
Such novelty lamps were popular in the mid-20th century and are today appreciated by collectors of vintage lighting and maritime-inspired design. The combination of copper and brass materials, the mechanical rotating light system, and the architectural lighthouse form make this a highly decorative and unusual piece.
The lamp has been carefully restored and cleaned. The copper and brass have been polished and waxed to preserve their warm patina. For safety, the electrical wiring has been replaced while retaining the original vintage bakelite plug, maintaining the authentic character of the piece. The on/off switch is located on the base.
All electrical components inside the lamp are marked EP, an Italian electrical manufacturer active during the mid-20th century, which supports the 1950s dating.
A true eye-catcher for an interior, nautical collection, coastal home, or mid-century lighting collection.
