Description from the seller
A band from the bloom of this famous French satirical magazine.
It concerns the year 1900 nr. 313 3 November through nr 364 26 October 1901 with wonderful front pages, countless text illustrations, supplements and various advertisements. It provides a good snapshot of the political, cultural and artistic life in France at the beginning of the 20th century.
The half-leather binding looks very good as do the journals.
Le Rire (1894 – 1971) was the most successful of all the satirical French magazines at the beginning of the 20th century. The publication was packed with splendid drawings by famous artists such as Steinlen, Toulouse-Lautrec, Goursat, Willette, Forain, Capiello, Hermann-Paul and Guillaume.
Le Rire was in the dance halls, cabarets and cafés to evoke the atmosphere for its readers with, among other things, illustrations of contemporary stars such as Yvette Guilbert, Polaire, Jane Avril and Réjane.
The publication contained chromotypographies across the front, back and center pages. Many of these illustrations are currently sought-after collectibles.
