Krass Clement, Impasse Hotel Syria, first edition (2016) published by Naraya Press/Gylling, hardcover, 184 pages, no text, original language, photography collection, in near-new condition.
Description from the seller
An exquisitely issued, hardcover book by the well-known Danish photographer Krass Clement (1946). 'Impasse Hotel Syria' is a highly sought-after edition with photographs taken in 2001 in Damascus, Palmyra, Deir Ez-Zur, Aleppo and Homs. The Hotel Baron in Aleppo is also explicitly mentioned. The book contains no text. The photographs also have no captions. For this documentary photographer, it is about creating a total image in which the essence of, in this case, Syria and its inhabitants is captured in Krass Clement’s characteristic, personal way. For this photographer, the moments appear to be incidental. Even when people look at the camera, they do not pose. The photos featuring children are very moving and sometimes even poignant. Incidentally, not all photos feature people. The desolate landscape also plays an important role in this volume. Apart from a few color photos at the front and back, this edition contains black-and-white photographs that are superbly printed on heavy paper. In particular, the photos taken at twilight and in the evening radiate melancholy, but sometimes also a sense of claustrophobia. 'Impasse Hotel Syria' is an excellent introduction to a remarkable photographer who has, over time, built a widely admired, substantial body of work. Because the book is in pristine condition, the photos were taken without fully opening the book. The book is carefully packed and shipped by registered mail / insured. In view of measures by the American president, this book is not sent to America.
