Description from the seller
French, early 20th century (circa 1900-1930 Belle Époque period).
These elegant pieces feature a central ornate monogram “S” with intricate swirling vines, arabesques, and floral tendrils – a classic French bourgeois or aristocratic family initial (likely the surname starting with S, original period engraving).
• Diameter: 14 cm;
• Total weight of the pair: 338 g (approx. 169 g per piece) – substantial weight indicating thick base metal (likely Alfenide nickel-silver alloy) and good plating quality;
• Central design: Quatrefoil/four-lobed clover motif with intertwined loops, monogram “S” finely engraved in the centre;
• Hallmarks on reverse: “CHRISTOFLE” in block letters + “87” (classic 19th-century plating quality/weight indicator in grams per unit, common on Christofle silver plate) + “4” (likely model or batch number);
• Silver-plated metal (not solid sterling – no Minerva head hallmark)
Very good antique condition for pieces over 130 years old. Normal age patina, light wear to plating (visible in photos, especially center and edges), no dents, no holes, no repairs. Plating maintains a good shine.
Authentic Christofle, perfect for collectors of French silver plate, antique tableware enthusiasts, or to add vintage elegance to a modern or period setting.
