Antique French inkpot / desk ink set – T. Oudry & Cie Éditeurs Déposé – Napoléon III period (19th century)
Description
Elegant antique French inkpot from the Napoléon III period, produced in the second half of the 19th century. The piece bears the mark “T. Oudry & Cie Éditeurs Déposé”, a French publisher/manufacturer of decorative bronze and metal objects.
The item consists of a richly decorated urn-shaped inkpot with a hinged lid, set on a large round brass drip plate. The inkpot features a removable inner pot. The decoration shows classical drapery and ornament motifs typical of French desk objects from this period.
This type of ink set traditionally stood on the writing desks of notaries, lawyers, and administrations in the 19th century. Today it forms a particularly decorative object for a desk or interior.
Condition
- Good antique condition with normal use and age-related marks.
- slight discoloration and patina on the brass
- small scratches consistent with age
- hinged lid present and functional, with slight play from use
- interior shows traces of old ink
- The original patina has been preserved. The brass can optionally be polished if desired.
