Antique oval wall mirror in carved and gilded wood with a neoclassical French Louis XVI style, origin France, measuring about 85 cm high, 40 cm wide and 3 cm deep, in good used condition with signs of age.
Description from the seller
Louis XVI giltwood mirror – France – late 18th / early 19th century
Elegant oval mirror in carved and gilded wood, made in the Louis XVI style, France, late 18th century / early 19th century (circa 1780–1830)
The frame is finely sculpted with the typical neoclassical ribbon at the top, from which laurel garlands descend to frame the central oval. The lower part is decorated with an additional carved vegetal motif that harmoniously completes the composition.
The gilding is original leaf gilt with red bole visible in some spots, a typical characteristic of period gilding. The surface presents a beautiful antique patina, which adds great charm and authenticity to the piece.
The mirror preserves its original frame, glass, and back panel, with fittings and nailwork consistent with production between the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
This type of mirror was often used as a decorative wall mirror or above a console, and today it is highly appreciated in contemporary interiors as well.
Conditions
The mirror is in good overall condition considering its age, with signs of wear consistent with an antique object, visible in the photographs, which are an integral part of the description.
Dimensions
• Height: about 85 cm
• Width: about 40 cm
• Depth: about 3 cm
